Little bit more progress
eddie99 - 10/5/09 at 10:17 PM

Hi Guys,

Just thought i would share some more progress.... We had a mad rush for SVA but didnt make it, but in doing so, made some more progress which is always good :p

Managed to fit plastic fuel tank and fuel lines, which will have to be redone for IVA now for a ally tank....

Brakes all in but damaged one of our brake lines getting engine in so got to redo a brake line down the transmission tunnel.

Engine issues with alternator etc.. all sorted. Just electrics/ecu and to mount radiator before the first start.

Propshaft in...

Dash done

So here are some photos:

looks good. Why do you have to change the fuel lines, not just the tank?

omega0684 - 10/5/09 at 10:31 PM

momo wheel will fail sva

nice looking zetec engine there, looks very clean.....

Nice, neat install

eddie99 - 11/5/09 at 07:01 AM

Some of the rear fuel lines because the tank for IVA has to be in a differnt position, it needs to be above diff for IVA now... so the fuel lines at the back need to be altered to suit that.

I spoke to VOSA and they said as long as the spokes on the momo steering wheel are padded, it will pass. So a job todo before IVA is to pad the steering wheel.

oldtimer - 11/5/09 at 07:12 AM

Where in the IVA manual does it say the tank needs to be above the diff - mine isn't so I checked the manual but can see nothing about tank height?

twybrow - 11/5/09 at 07:45 AM

I spoke to VOSA/SVA man ref fuel tanks, here is a summary of what they said:

Fuel tank location will not need to change, as long as there are no bolts/sharp edges that would punture the tank in the event of a rear end collision. They have issues when people fit spare wheel carriers etc, that have bolts that stick through into the area adjacent to the tank. If this was pushed forward, clearly it could damge the tank. If you don't have a load of bolts, and you do have some structural metal work to the rear of the car (unlike a GTS which is just GRP) then the tank can stay where it is....

This is a photo of where my fuel tank has been fitted before it was fitted....

Will i have to move it?

Your tank is exactly where mine, and most everybodies, is. The IVA mentions piercing by projections as an issue so I guess that means - as twybrow says - it should be ok depending on what you put on the back panel. Please check before making statements like tank relocation requirements!!!

eddie99 - 11/5/09 at 10:20 AM

i just got told i have to move it yesterday, but am checking with VOSA today

big_wasa - 11/5/09 at 11:02 AM

I hope not as thats where I have put mine

Ps nice to see a Panther I do like the white.

Yes if you have a load of bolts sticking through, and yes if you dont add an upper edge to the boot area (the only metal is at the bottom, the top is just GRP on the GTS Panther). Otherwise, no, you'll be fine.

big_wasa - 11/5/09 at 12:07 PM

Ive just phoned obp and he is making me a top rail for mine. I am using a Luego panel any way.
So with a couple of vertical stays it should solve that one

twybrow - 11/5/09 at 01:05 PM

Sounds perfect bigwasa....

Stuart_B - 12/5/09 at 05:08 PM

nice to see the exhaust is on now, so what did you do to it sunday?

gavin174 - 13/5/09 at 08:18 PM

heres a few pics of what i am doing..

only my interpretation of the iva....

hopefully get the support bars in for the tank tomorrow.

eddie99 - 17/6/09 at 05:56 PM

Im going to get a smaller tank for IVA, put in a differnt position then put it back after IVA with my nice largeish plastic tank after and hopefully not have to do any major replumbing.
It just isnt worth the risk of having to pay £90 more for a retest

gavin174 - 17/6/09 at 06:07 PM

i wouldnt worry ed..

they will probably have replaced iva with something else by the time you finished...

now get out in the garage and work on the car!!!

eddie99 - 17/6/09 at 06:15 PM

How could i guess, you were going to say something like that?

How long have you been building Gav???? :p

lol, that is a good one.

gavin174 - 18/6/09 at 08:45 AM

i have been building since march 08

but its not a race eddie,

your build is excellant quality and would be a shame if you rushed it..

i have the advantage of early days from work and having helped build 3 cars already can sometimes see easier way of doing jobs....

if you even need a hand just give me a shout..

cheers gavin

eddie99 - 18/6/09 at 10:51 AM

Precisely... im getting there :p
