Price comparison table
dozracing - 11/4/05 at 02:32 PM

I have chosen 22 different yet important Locost products prices as listed on the website of the suppliers (11/04/05) and put them in a table for direct and easy comparison.

I would love to add to it and keep it upto date.

Table attached below.

Kind regards,

Darren

as i said on the other thread, its a close run thing on the back panel

locoboy - 11/4/05 at 03:15 PM

thats a good way of presenting the information, i thought about doing that myself but couldnt be arsed!

Leugo - whats going on o:

trackrod ends,
ball joints,
mushroom adapters
but most of all the suspension bolt pack

that lot bought from GTS will leave you enough to buy a bonnet from GTS too

shortie - 11/4/05 at 05:11 PM

Just out of interest are they all like for like exactly? Aren't GTS shocks different from MK for instance?

Rich.

dozracing - 11/4/05 at 05:50 PM

They are like for like as far as is sensible and as far as the information is presented on the website.

The shocks from all three companies are from different manufacturers, and the differences are well discussed on here.

All you really do is go with the information on the standard offered product. If you want more details on each item i guess you'll have to research it, more closely.

For example its hard in a table like that to point out how much effort we have put in to enhance the quality of our bodywork over that offered my the competition, but, when it comes down to it a lot of people just want to know what the bottom line cost is.

Kind regards,

Darren

What's that smell?

Aah yes, it's marketing bull shit.

I would advise anyone to actually ring around the different suppliers and get prices to get an accurate comparision. Several suppliers are not keeping their sites up to date with pricing info.

Having bought from MK I know that the above is not accurate in several areas.

If people want an accurate comparision table I'll put a website together that's independent of any supplier. The suppliers can all email their prices weekly or whatever to keep it up to date. Suppliers please email me if you are willing to take part, if there's at least 3 I'll set it up.

Yeah blue smarties vary from shop to shop.........Chill

MikeR - 11/4/05 at 09:46 PM

what is it with you and blue smarties mark? you do worry(*) me at times!

(* this is a complete lie, i don't worry at all. but when i'm bored i do wonder ....... which is often!)

dozracing - 12/4/05 at 04:44 AM

Hi Andy,

Its not marketing bull shit, its prices as published on websites, and Mk's website is the newest of all of them, so you would expect it to be the most upto date.

If you are willing to do a proper website with price comparison count me in, but, i doubt Luego will be up for it, cos its embarrasing for them, which is the point of doing it in the first place. Whats worse for them is as i understand it MK and Luego use the same GRP suppliers, and yet Luego charge more than MK.

If you want like for like on shocks then i sell Protech shocks for £300 a set which is still cheaper than the other two.

Luego pi**ed me off, by claiming my car is a copy of theirs, and so are some of my parts. Big headed or what. If your going to copy something you copy the best, not the mediocre.

Kind regards,

Darren

Triton - 12/4/05 at 06:52 AM

Luego claims GTS is a copy of their car?????.

Well all i can say is, the bodywork was made from scratch(not stretched old stuff) and the chassis was an improved Locost, which in itself is a reworked Westfield(allegedly) so all who started off doing Locosts then went on to do their own have copied...Makes me laugh though because (and this will offend) the only real 7 is the Caterham.......

David Jenkins - 12/4/05 at 07:31 AM

When Uncle Ron was quoted on TOL after the Westfield dispute was settled, he finished by saying "Well, we all copied Colin anyway!"

Hi Colin,

Pretty good if we can get on with it now-ish. Bodywork takes about two weeks, so we should be OK for Stoneliegh.

Kind regards,

Darren

locoboy - 12/4/05 at 08:28 AM

if i can see a picture of the blue im after then i can place an order asap really.

Also i may be interested in the BRA aerobubble, i cant find a picture of that on your WWW.

Cheers

With no bias to any manufacturer I rang several suppliers when I ordered my bodywork. It is fair comment that a lot of suppliers don't always have the correct pricing on their websites. To give an illustration I rang luego (this was last summer when I bought the bodywork from darren) to get a quote as I personally rate luego, stuart taylor and mk for low line bodywork. Luego gave me a price and I said I was building a locost and it sounded a bit expensive and they immediately offered me a discount if I was to order the same day. I'm not saying prices are in anyway inflated, but some manufacturers do/did/may offer incentives to boost sales.

As said above I bought from darren at the time as he was cheapest and if i were to buy again i'd still ring round to check the prices. I'd still buy the lowline bodywork. I don't dispute the quality of darresn gts body, but imho I'd only consider it if I had real issues getting an engine under the lowline stuff as his is 3/4" taller over the engine/bonnet section. The only other to consider is the velocity body which is 2" taller, but it wasn't/isn't as far as i know available with a bonnet without the lump.air scoop in the middle which i don't like.

swings and roundabouts (and blue smartie's for mark )

Ned.

Ofcorse its marketing, but I don't consider it to be bullshit.
I don't think Darren is doing this because he likes to play around with Excel

He want to show that he has the best prices/preformance.
And if all the others has inaccurate prices in their websites, why even bother with having prices on the site?

I allways check the suppliers websites if i'm looking for parts to my Locost. And I will compare the price with the other suppliers websites. I don't have time to give every supplier a call whenever I'm looking for a part.

Btw Darren
whats your price on front wing stays??

Triton - 12/4/05 at 05:34 PM

Last time i looked Michael they were 2grand

dozracing - 12/4/05 at 06:15 PM

Hi Mikael,

Sierra wing stays are £35 and the new stronger Cortina ones are £45.

Darren

Michael,
I don't know fancy bringing the wife to the UK then swapping her for some grp......

Only kidding, how's it going then?

Cheers
Mark

Micael - 14/4/05 at 06:57 AM

I tried to, but Darren wasen't interested. And you had such a hangover, so i'm suprised that you even noticed that i had my missus with me

I had to take her home with me along with the GRP.

The build is going fine, i had my first drive last weekend.

Have you bought a mask now?

Triton - 14/4/05 at 07:10 AM

Me not notice a female?....hangover or not i noticed...and very pretty....i think it would have been a very fair trade myself..

When i can find it i wear a mask, terrible at hiding things from myself.

dozracing - 14/4/05 at 09:25 AM

I have to agree the swapping the wife for GRP and i'd have even thrown in the shock kit as well.

Micael - 16/4/05 at 06:09 PM

Your own brand or is it Pro Tech?

Triton - 24/4/05 at 09:42 AM

Michael,
What can i tempt you with as a swap then........

Found the mask then lost it again, sure that place has ghosts of dead cows hiding and moving stuff about.....
