finished GTS
tom_loughlin - 28/2/06 at 10:53 PM

Im halfway through reading the long thread - the arguement one very addictive reading!) and have come across the 'is there any SVA`d GTS' on the road'

the answer to that question is yes, mine.

not going to get into any arguements at all just thought id post a few pics - any excuse

theres a lad not far from me too who has finished his GTS - beat me to it!

Mine has been on the road for about a month, still having some teething problems, but overcomming them.

Tom

P.S.before anyone asks, the pics are 'post SVA' - i.e. a lot of the safety and silly things fell off on the way back from shrewsbury

nice headlights - are they standard gts issue or your own find?

Jeez, just lookat at the pics, the cars pretty dirty - i like the well used look anyway!

as for the headlights, theyre from a company called custom wizard - pretty pricey, but they were exactly the look i was searching for, so bought em.

Tom,
I looked at similar headlights off a motorbike but they didn't dip. Have these been modified to dip?

PS very nice motor!

About the mirrors - I need to get the light blue changed to black (on the stems) - i thought it would look alright, but have changed my mind.

The lights are bikelights, they do dip (but wrong way for UK law - as theyre manufactured in the states)

for MOT i will need to revert to the huge ones that i used for SVA as they have no sidelights either.

Tom,

It's not just me that drives around with a bag of tools in the car - just in case

Oh yeah - I like the "well used" look too

Simon - still not trustion my own workmanship, hence the tools! one day i might pluck up the courage to leave them at home, but that will be the day the car falls apart round me

also, i dont trust the fuel guage (hence the jerry can) - god knows why though- it seems good so far, butbetter safe than sorry

Come to think about it, i carry tools round in my civic too.....

Looking good Tom. Like the clean Dash layout and the dials. I also like the aeroscreen which is a bit different from all the others.

Know what you mean about the tools, I have been out in mine quite a few times since I finished building it and I still always check when I get home that nothings fallen off!!

It stands to reason I guess that after fitting and tightening so many screws, nuts and bolts that somewhere along the line you may have missed one!

Well done,
Rich.

Looks really good mate. What engine have you got in there.

Matt_Claydon is in Bristol too (I think) if you want another local builder.

He occasionally brings his MK down to the BoxHill or Newlands meets we have. Would be cool to see your car there too.

Cheers,
James

Tom has very kindly sent me all his build photographs to help me on the wey with mine - i hope mine turns out as nice!

Im building an R1 powered one, has anyone completed a BEC panther?

tom_loughlin - 1/3/06 at 11:37 AM

Thanks for all your kind comments guys!
Mark - Help yourself to any photos you want, and if you want - if you want any more feel free to drop me a line.
James - Im not in bristol any more finished studying there last summer, Makes me realised how long ago i was in uni, and gives me a kick up the ass to get a proper job! Ill be travelling down a lot in the GTS in the summer i would imagine - just need to get a bit more comfidence in the car i think. Engine is a bog standard 1.8CVH - its not bad, but as soon as ive learned to handle it (i know its only weeny, but ive never driven rwd properly - and im thefirst to admit, even sub-100BHP is too much for me sometimes in that thing!) im going to put in a 2L zetec - ive already started collecting the bits to do so.

Thanks again guys

Tom
