MK9R - 9/2/11 at 04:30 PM

Well i bought this as a little project last year as a non runner. I got it running after a lot of faffing and replacing parts. It now runs and starts fine. It could do with a tune up to get it perfect (i.e. timing and carbs setting), i just haven't got round to it. I was going to send it for its MOT but brakes weren't right, so i have rebuilt the callipers and master cylinder, but peddle still not properly firm without a quick pump. Its probably something very simple (i've bled them with easibleed and mytivac kits but never tried the proper 2 man job, so could just be that). Apart from this i can't see any reason why it won't go through the MOT.

I was going to wait until the spring to get the brakes and MOT done then sell it on, but i could reallyt do with the space in my garage.

£1500 takes it, which i think is a total bargin for a nice classic gtm

Presumably an A series with a humungous SU lurking in the tail?
Could imagine it being a serious Autosolo contender?
Cheers, Pewe

SeaBass - 9/2/11 at 05:11 PM

Funky little machine at a good price there. Zilspeed had one - he'll be along soon.

MK9R - 9/2/11 at 05:26 PM

Its got a 1993 1.3 cooper A+ series in the backi
Spaz adjustables all round
New facet fuel pump
New coil, dizzy, leads and plugs
Good tyres all round
Black and polished silver minilites all in good condition
Cobra seats

Hard and soft top

skodaman - 9/2/11 at 06:25 PM

I'd grab that if I didn't have the locost to finish (start). Great little cars.

TimC - 9/2/11 at 07:17 PM

I am forced to remind myself that we live in a "P.C." World.

MK9R - 9/2/11 at 08:11 PM

Pmsl!!! Oops! Its all because of my bus!

zilspeed - 9/2/11 at 08:11 PM

Yes, I'm a fan and always have been.

Slight anoraky point of order though for which I fully expect to be pilloried.

The K3 was called so because of it being the third model and having a K series in the back.

This car is a Rossa MK2.

Very pretty though and I would have it off you in a minute if I were in a position to do so.

Here was mine.
I know, I've linked to this pic many many times before, but t'was my finest moment the circumstances of which I shall not fully divulge.

I'm really liking the idea of this and may have sold my MG and need to fill the garage! What engine is it -1275? And what state of tune etc (you say it needs a tune up but does it have any performance parts etc). Gearbox ok? Anything else need doing to it? Is it just a softtop and does it leak and need to live in a garage?

Would a nearly 6 footer fit in it?

The engine is a 1.3 from a 1993 cooper, fitted with 1.75 hf44 su carb and according needle, apart from the Stainless exhaust its standard as far as I know. Engine timing and mixture need setting up to be spot on, but runs and starts fine as is, but sure a few more ponies can be found with a priper set up. Gearbox is fine. Its comes with a hard top which is properly waterproof and a soft top which is adequte for driving in showers but would leak if left outside (but a bit of setting up would probably sort it as its only around the windows it suffers. Apart from the brakes mention its is all good, I have even spent £70 on some nice decals (gt3 rs inspired but with GTM logo), but not fitted them yet.

Hi, still tempted but not yet sold the MG. Have a few more questions if I can be nosey -

What's it like noise wise? Went to look at the one that ended on ebay yesterday, similar spec and it was fecking loud (was testing in an enclosed parking area so hard to be accurate). Has yours ever been tested for a track day limit?

Also hard to see in photos but do the lights have the fairing covers (to follow lines of the wings)? Are these standard or was the one I looked at a bit modded?

Any photos of the bonnet area to show tank and spare (if it has one) please? Also are electrics OK as there are a few scotchlocks shown in the boot/engine photo that often point to a previous owner having more enthusiasm than talent?

No probs:-

Exhaust is very sensible, so not too loud at all.

No it doesn't have the headlamp covers, but you can still get these.

no more photos at the moment, i'll try and get some at the weekend. Its been built to a good standard, i suspect the previous owner added the scotch locks at some time when messing with the lights. Everything electrically works, apart from the temp gauge reads very low at normal driving temp, i'm guessing sensor is incorrect. It comes with a matching alloy spare.

A little off topic, but have you a photo of the GTM stripes ?

Had this made up, enough to do 2 x triple (thin -wide- thin thin-wide-thin) doen centre of car, and the GTM with thick and lower stripe down the sides. They are still in the box and cost be about £75 as the the font is the same as the porsche GT3 RS which isn't available so the guy had to custom do it. I was an extravagant expense but will look brilliant when its on

amazed this is still for sale, a little sports car with a small engine is just perfect when fuel is so expensive

you don't want to swap a half finished JBA Falcon for it do you...?

montythemole - 14/3/11 at 06:12 PM

I'm still tempted but not sold the MGB yet. Unless you are open to swaps!
