My beloved VW Phaeton 3.0 TDi for sale
russbost - 22/9/14 at 12:15 PM

Much though it grieves me to have to sell the best car I've ever owned, I am going to be clocking around 40,000 miles over the next couple of years & whilst the Phaeton is probably one of the best cars for eating up miles in, I will be getting something that does around 75mpg instead of 35mpg!

I will be putting the car on Ebay in the next few days, but if anyone on here wants to make me a sensible offer over £5k then the car can be yours, currently cheapest comparable Phaeton on Ebay in age & mileage is up for £6377 (very strange price!) & that's done 170,000 miles - mine has done a mere 138,000 (tho' still going up as will be getting plenty of use in next couple of weeks) it's on an '07 plate, so it has just about run in! I think I'm the 3rd owner, had the car for over 5 years. Don't forget, this is a Bentley under the skin & whilst I rarely agree with JC (that's Clarkson, not Jesus!) it was his Car of the Year some years back & it knocks spots off the Jags & a Rolls that I've had previously!

The car is absolutely fully loaded (was over £50k when new!!!) , I believe the only extra which it hasn't got that you could have specified is the tyre pressure monitor, it has all the usual bits you'd expect with any modern car + Sat nav, heated & air conditioned front seats, heated steering wheel (yes really!), electric seats with memory & massage (!), electric rear window blind, electric sunroof, front fogs, radar cruise control (the only thing on the car which doesn't work at present), 4 zone climate control, radio controls on steering wheel, 19" alloys, about a million airbags - if you're ever unfortunate enough to have an accident it will be a bit like being in a bouncy castle! & loads, loads more, like nice touches with lighting to footwells, door recesses & under the mirrors (nice when you unlock the car in the dark). It has the VW 4 motion 4 wheel drive system & the 3.0 litre turbo diesel engine.

Why is it cheap - well apart from some kerbing on the alloys, which any competent DIYer could easily sort, at a glance the car is immaculate & drives absolutely perfectly, Mot'd until July 2015 - however, there are some small rust areas on each of the doors, nothing much bigger than a 50p piece &, as I say, only on the doors, so never going to be a MoT/structural issue, but nevertheless disappointing for a car of this quality & the radar cruise doesn't work, it comes up with a message saying "sensor dirty" which it isn't, so may need a sensor replaced, I've never done anything about it as I actually found the radar cruise slightly intrusive & over controlling. However, looking at other prices I'm giving you around £1500 to deal with any such issues & the rust marks, which I feel is more than fair - I would much rather see the car sold to someone on here to get good use from it than entertain a bunch of tyre kickers from Ebay!

I'm still uploading pics to show the kerbing & rust etc. but in the meantime you'll find more in my archive & Here on Photobucket

Car is currently in Benfleet, Essex, will be in South Hants (New Milton) later today & tomorrow, & will be up in the Midlands (Bromsgrove, Worcs) next week if that helps with anyone wanting to view the car, could obviously try & arrange a meet up anywhere in between if possible just call me, Russ, on 07914 258651

It will happily record around 33 - 35mpg at something over legal motorway cruising speeds & my insurance (as an old git with no points) is just £260 with LV. Pretty sure these cars will shortly become a classic, so every chance of its value increasing over the years - I think had VW not made the Phaeton they would probably never have made the Veyron!

I thought all VW were covered by a 12 year guarantee against body corrosion!

Looks like a nice car.

Good point, apart from damage caused by stone chips/road debris my m8 has been told by VW.
So his sills were not covered

Looks alot of car for the money

What's road tax like?

Tried to send this from my phone earlier, but doesn't appear to have worked! My understanding is it's a 7 year guarantee, but only if you've had annual inspections at VW main dealer.

Yes it is a fantastic car!

I thought the Phaeton has aluminium doors. Got a magnet anywhere to hand?

IIRC they call it an anti-perforation warranty. i.e. it won't rust through in the middle of a panel. Like most warranties though I'd imagine the wording and wriggle room is slanted heavily in VWs favour.

No, defo not aluminium, I think that's just the Audis - it weighs over 2 tonnes - do NOT get in the way of it!

Did I forget to add electric boot open/shut, rain sensing wipers, HID automatic headlights, dashboard computer? I have never had to add a single drop of engine oil or water between services & there are absolutely no leaks or faults with the mechanicals of the car (other than aformentioned radar cruise). Now back from Hampshire, will be in Essex for next week or so.

Car is now up on Ebay with a more complete description for anyone who is interested. It would appear the doors are ali, so can only assume the bubbling is ali corrosion not rust!
