Who can make me an ali plenum?
flak monkey - 17/12/09 at 04:20 PM

Beyond my skills at the moment, and a bit of a premtive post TBH.

I will be after an aluminium plenum chamber to feed by throttle bodies once the engine is in the car.

I can do the design work and supply proper drawings for what I need, but is there anyone on here that can fabricate it for me?

I would supply a few turned items (ie ali bosses to match my throttle bodies and tapped sender bosses) and then need probably need someone to fabricate the rest.

Needs to be able to withstand 1bar of boost minimum. And shouldnt see vacuum as its the wrong side of the butterflies.

At best I may be able to tack weld the assembly together and just need it all welding.

Any pointers would be great

Cheers,
David

See if you can get in touch with Tony Jarvis owner of Chassis Craft in Parsons Drove, he is a very good fabricator/ali welder. If i can get hold of his number I will u2u it..

Have you thought about casting.
Make a suitable design, min wall thickness 5mm (dont forget release angles) and take to a casting company.
I would say £60 judging by what i`ve paid to get done.

Thanks
Darren

907?

I'm making one based on the plenum from a Nissan Pulsar GTIR and a set of GSXR throttle bodies. I'm copying the idea from a guy on the Westfield forum who details his design very well in a thread here:
http://boardroom.wscc.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard.cgi?act=ST;f=3;t=5921 5;hl=fw500

Mine will be considerably cheaper than his though, mainly lacking the £500 worth of Jenveys. I did email him once to see if he had any of the spacers or backplates spare but he wanted £80 for them so I decided to make my own - I think the spacer will be made out of a thick nylon kitchen chopping board when I get around to putting it together. Plenum cost me £20 off ebay, TBs cost £30, steel manifold flange cost £20. Should be all done for sub £100 I hope.

Cool, I rather like the pulsar idea.

Cant find any plenums on ebay at the mo though.

you do see the pulsar ones going, i was watching a nice polished one, went for under £100. think its a good way, just changed my mind on ITB's

I bought a set of pulsar ones off ebay and am waiting for them to arrive, plenum complete with throttle bodies.

Will see how the whole assembly offers up otherwise I will just use the plenum as it is.
