Hi Steve,

So I won't ask - directly. Maybe you could offer other Xflow users some practical guidance (i.e. do's & DON'T's).

Dick

the list goes on, but

1) dont build your engine to the highest spec you can afford as when it goes bang you will have to replace it with somthing similar, equally expensive
(two years running)
2) dont bolt on some "freebie" twin 40webbers" that do 10 mpg at full chat, yet are so lean they melt the valve seats and crack the head (£500 stage 3 head) so that your valves go thru the head !!!
3) get a rev limiter, and set it to a suitabley realistic figure
4) get a mixture sensor in the exhaust that will tell you when things are getteing lean
5)dont drive the car, as no driving means engines should last longer
6) dont lose heart!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
cos i have

any more gratefully accepted
and Dick how is your xflow?

Steve,

Pleased to hear you're sticking with the crossflow. Can't help unfortunately, but I keep a 'spare' just in case! See you at stoneleigh?

Marcus

Thanks for the useful (?) tips.

Have rebuilt my crossflow, over winter, after unleading the head. Bin f**tin' about with shortened sump, but then decided to refit the old 'un, 'cos the revised oil pickup would be too insecurely fixed. So its still up on the building stand, 'till I can borrow an engine hoist. Hope to get it running by summer - maybe?
