I'm after a vertical mill, somthing tool room sized, in very good condition, single phase (preffered), digital read out and with as much tooling as possible. Bridgeport or other common mill would be ideal.

or maybe post a wanted ad, there's also a guy who regularly sells inverter phase convertors on the first site, which are very reasonably priced. Probably easier than finding a good single phase machine.

There are companies around that specialise in buying up old toolroom equipment and selling it on. Im sure there was one in Jarrow a few years back. I bet there are some local to you.
I seem to recall there is a book called something like machinery byuyers handbook. A bit like an industrial yellow pages. Worth doing a search or seeing if a mate in a factory might know if there was one lying around. When i worked as a production engineer in a large factory (Black & Decker) we had them in the depertment.

I bet there are a few surplus machines kicking about at the moment. I wouldnt be surprised if someone is importing new kit from the far east at competitive prices or even if Bridgeport themselves may have some used kit to sell on.

we hunted for ages for a used vertical miller but most were too big or too worn or too expensive tomove or not guarded enough togo in a schol workshop.
In the end we bought one from Axminster tools which is excellent but may be a bit small for heavy engineering purposes.
By the time you allow for haulage, wiring in etc a new one may not be much more- they sometimes have old models- no longer in the catalogues- which are available at discounted prices.
I obviouslyhave no connection withthe firmother than having bought a hassle free machine!
