Pinto Exhaust
Fer - 26/4/06 at 09:26 PM

OK, so please forgive the Non-Locost intrusion, but anyone got any suggestions of where I can get an exhaust for my 2.1 Westfield.

I did not build it myself, so I am not 100% sure what I am asking for, but my daily drive (aka only car) has fractured the exhaust on the outside, and I have managed to patch it temporarily, but am in desparate need of one.

Any suggestions welcome, even if they are just "never darken our doors again".

Thx,
Fer

Hi and welcome, have you phoned Westfield ? i'm sure if they will be able to help out, might cost a arm & leg thou !! or you could get a specialist to make one ?

Cheers Jonno

Not phoned them yet, happened on the way home, only just enough time to get some temp fix from H**f**ds.

To be honest, I have no idea where to look, and someone from Pistonheads suggested here was a useful site.

Its a great site, and some really helpful people about. The quick fix will be Westfield i reckon (as its your daily driver you need it done quite quickly) theres quite a few other about mk etc but not sure if it will fit straight on the westy.

Do you know what model you have Se, Sei, Sew, Seiw ?

It is an early SEiW. I bought it built (oh the shame) but love it dearly. It is a little long in the tooth, but I have been able to keep in on the road, including having to locate a cortina clutch cable and side screens to help me through the winter.

Now all I need is to stop it sounding like a tractor and I have it cracked!

Is it stainless, and is there no chance of it being "weldable" ?

Fer - 26/4/06 at 10:02 PM

The previous owner covered it all up with "heat shield", but it looks cast. Have not had a chance to get it to my local mechanic to investigate further, but I know he will ask me if I can find a replacement, which is how I got here!

Are we talking manifold or the lot as gone west ?
If it looks cast (the manifold) then you could be onto a winner because its odds on its the standard ford one, get the cover off and look for some casting marks/numbers and get a pic posted asap.

Sounds like a job for MK Engineering, though maybe a bit too far for you to travel. Details here if you fancy giving Martin a call.

Sure there must be others more local to you though. Hope you get sorted.

No such thing as a non-locost intrusion. All se7en inspired vehicles are welcome here. Lots of manufacturers are represented on this site. The only entry requirement is that you are barking mad and thick skinned!!

As said above - post some pics so we can see what bit is broken. There are so many different patterns of exhausts fitted these days (eg anything from std manifold and single downpipe exitting thro side panel to a full stainless 4 branch system exitting throu bonnet with all 4 pipes on the outside).

Assuming it is just your manifold that has cracked. I would rather suspect if it is a cast manifold it will be a std Ford one. You just need to know if it has two outlets (Sierra type) or a single outlet (like the Escort / Cortina ones). Also measure the diameter of the outlet pipe.

I hope this helps - sounds like a solution is just around the corner and probably cheap.

Thanks for all your advice, folks.

Well, the search is getting desparate, since Westfield do not have any in stock, and the one on ebay does not finish for another 12 hrs, and the vendor is expecting big things. (Did ask if he would sell/ship it today, but not interested).

Car is now fuggered, and I am on the train tomorrow.

Jon Ison - 27/4/06 at 09:25 PM

so its not a "stock" ford item then ?

Fer - 27/4/06 at 09:28 PM

Acording to Mike the mechanic, No. He could not remember any Ford, including the RS2k with that style manifold.

jonno - 27/4/06 at 09:44 PM

Any chance of a picture ?, someone else might know what is from

TangoMan - 1/5/06 at 11:11 PM

I can't see Westfield producing a cast manifold.

If it is cast then I guess it will be a Ford item from one of the many models.

A photo will give some indication and may piont you to a cheap solution.

Westfield prices are extremely competitive at the moment, on both parts and complete kits.

btw I don't own a westy

Thanks to everyone for their advice and assistance. The long and short of it is having trailed around Stoneleigh with both bits in my bag, I dumped it with Simpsons, and they are working their magic before I get it back in a couple of weeks.
