If it's not on the road put a standard one on till you get it sorted then shorten it when you are ready. My pinto sump is not shortened and doesn't cause any problems and there are some mighty speed bumps round here. I have about 4" of clearance under the sump.

They come up on ebay often, expect to pay around £100 though. Currently :

have a word with bill on the rhocar site
he is local to you, and does a good job

I chopped my own and got a mate (a coded welder) to tig weld it up for a tenner. If you make the bits go up a small local fabrication place and get the to weld it up. If you go and speak to the right person they will do it while you wait (took my mate no more than 5mins to weld mine).

Dunno if i keep missin u on msn or what. how did u measure up how much to chop off?

auzziejim - 21/10/06 at 09:09 PM

well i welded my own but the sump plug then got threaded so i had a failed attempt at rectifying the situation with the sump in situ but its now totally fubar my own fault i know.

iv seen the rs alloy ones but in not keen seeing as imo the alloy will crack on impact and steel will more likely dent or bend.

pd lewis let me know a price and i will let you know

cheers

I measured from the centre of the input shaft of the gearbox to the bottom of the bellhousing. Then worked out how much to chop off the sump - pretty simple to do.

seems like one of these things thats easier said than done. but its a route i may look in to. im sure i can get it welded up pretty cheap.

Duncan Mould - 27/10/06 at 10:27 PM

I have shortened several pinto sumps in the rhocar fraternity as all 7 replicas suffer from ground clearance problems and find the operation to be relativly simple. I even add a small bunker on the side to aid oil capacity and have had no leaks so far.
I usually charge £30 and I will even spray it BLACK!

yes do I need a Code name?

Peteff - 29/10/06 at 09:26 AM

that one's perfect. It reminded me of something I saw on ebay, Duncan molds , American spelling though.
