linky

R reg is 77 so it's very likely to be an age related donor plate and maybe the DVLA screwed up the V5 paperwork - not unknown for pre SVA builds where things were even more confused than now.

It says Locust (which is a plywood and ladderframe chassis 7 lookalike). So I suspect one of those has given up it's identity to a MK build.

I call ringer.

graememk - 29/12/09 at 01:26 PM

i would say its a indy, but with the log book of a locust.

jacko - 29/12/09 at 01:29 PM

Mk use to make the locost do you think he has put [ locust ] and not locost by mistake

Hammerhead - 29/12/09 at 01:38 PM

i like that he has put that there is so much he can say about the car, then says nothing at all about it

But he says it's an Indy. Looks a newly minted car to me.

On another note who builds a car and then drives it 65miles in 3 years?

Hmmm.

Engine's an unusual choice - may well have come out of a Locust.

We've seen it all before - BEC MK crashed and reborn with an S2000 motor anyone?

TC

MakeEverything - 29/12/09 at 02:03 PM

Dont forget, you can call it whatever you like when you SVA.....

But, i think its a ringer, but id still probably buy it if i had the cash.

Danozeman - 29/12/09 at 03:10 PM

When was fiat twin cam first madfe? age related using the engine??

If not then its a ringo star,

mookaloid - 29/12/09 at 03:53 PM

Clearly a ringer. Obviously an Indy chassis etc from the description but registered as a Locust

One car with the identity of another is a ringer - how can it be anything else?

People continuing to do this sh*t will only give us genuine builders a bad name and make it more difficult for us to put our cars on the road in the future

snakebelly - 29/12/09 at 05:51 PM

i reckon its the other way round, i think its a J&C Locust on a dead MK's papers. Ladder frame chassis with 3/4" marine ply body skinned with ALi, built one myself in the 80's. I think the hint is the width of the cappings on the body sides

V5 is for a 77 locust so it's on locust papers.

Looks more like an Indy than the locusts I've seen
e.g.

Its worth mentioning that alot of locusts were re-chassied into book frames before SVA came in. My car was originally a Locust and was re-chassied in 1995.

JoelP - 29/12/09 at 09:08 PM

id suggest ringer.

BUT, you are allowed to replace all parts if necessary, i just dont think you can use a different chassis from the wrong manufacturer.

Now he could argue that it was originally a locust, then previously rebuilt before sva onto a spaceframe, than more recently rebuilt onto an MK indy chassis. This would not be far outside the law, maybe even legal.

However, id never pay £6750 for it even if it was legal!

correct

at which point after the MOT he should have got the V5 updated i.e. he'd used the old locust as a donor the same as any kit build in those days. It's outside the grace period for fixing those kinds of problems so you'd need proof of when it was done and that it had been on the road MOT'ed to get that fixed. Hard when the cars look externally similar.

No, the new spaceframe would have to be exactly the same in every detail - i.e. off the same manufacturers jig or at least built to identical measurements. There's no grey area on that in the DVLA rules.

DVLA rebuilt vehicle rules
The original unmodified chassis or unaltered bodyshell (i.e. body and chassis as one unit - monocoque); or a new chassis or monocoque bodyshell of the same specification as the original supported by evidence from the dealer or manufacturer (e.g. receipt).

Well no, at best you'd have to be worried about it being taken away and crushed as a ringer every MOT.

I'd be working out how much it was worth and subtracting the cost of putting it through IVA+hassle if I were considering it. Probably a round £1000 if you consider everything.

Not a Locust all the wrong shape. I should know as I made one.
