Is it electric then? What are PS?, I thought you put them at the end of letters.

scoobyis2cool - 17/7/05 at 09:50 PM

PS stands for pferdestaerke, and they're are almost the same as bhp - 280 PS is the same as 276bhp, so hardly any difference. (Also explains where the Japanese got their strange 276bhp limit - it's actually a much more round number of 280PS)

could it be that a PS is 750W whereas a BHP is 746W?

Not quite,
1 PS = 75 m.kgf/s = 735.49875 W = 1.013869665424 hp

It's no longer an officially recognised unit and is only used in the motor industry nowadays, no idea why though...

The motor industry use PS because it makes it sound like they have that bit more power. Also some use iso or din to do the same. These are different methods of calculating crank power from output power.

I didn't know that . Translated from German to English that means horsepower. Das Pferd=horse, stark= strong or powerful. Does that mean their horses are not as strong as ours then?

it probably a special belhousing that cost more than my whole car
