$3700 for an '04 CBR1000RR ?

Sounds a bit fishy ? ?

Andy North - 3/9/05 at 08:26 AM

Several of us here thought the same, but the bike was delivered and checked out okay....unless it was nicked or something

Simon - 3/9/05 at 08:55 AM

Yamaha R1 04 - 2332 miles ... £1900 !!!

Free shipping world wide! (This can cost in excess of £1k to US!)

I really believe that when something sounds to good to be true it usually turns out not to be...

Only Western Union Transfer or eGold? I already know from an almost ridiculously stupid mistake on my part that WUT are the best way to fleece money from people without any come back or insurance.

What's this eGold though? Did your friend use this service to pay?

I'm not saying I don't believe you (because I would love an R1 for £1900!!) but a little confused...

Plus it seems that the MSN messenger contact doesn't have MSN installed.

What bike did he buy and at what price?

Sorry for the questions Andy just very interested...

Chris.

Andy North - 3/9/05 at 09:14 AM

He's gone back to the Phillipines (we work four weeks on and four off), but he said he paid the shipper directly. He was very anxious for a few days until it was delivered.

He bought a CBR 600, not sure about the year or price.

I will see if I can contact him on his home e-mail.

theconrodkid - 3/9/05 at 09:29 AM

seems they are "repo,s",pics look like they were taken in germany by an american company with a "mailing adress" in london.
who wants to be a guine pig,i fancy a duke

Winston Todge - 3/9/05 at 09:38 AM

Thanks that would be great Andy.

Just noticed a couple of discrepancies on the address...

Description
Description

These are the only addresses for 237 Oxford Street and the postcode only brings up a single address of...

Exchange International
241 Oxford Street
LONDON
W1D 2LT

Just seems a little odd to me...

I'd be very interested to know how your friend got on with them though. Phone calls? How he paid? Time to delivery?

Thanks again,

Chris.

The one thing I find really hard to believe is that someone can buy these bikes so cheaply from repo auctions, but then could quite easily sell them at a price that a 'normal' dealer could?

Why make only a little money when you could so easily make a lot more?

Chris,

You now have me worried, but he did say it all went ok. Hopefully I should be able to find out more next week.

akumabito - 3/9/05 at 12:13 PM

Let us now if you find out more.. because seriously, those prices ARE too good to be true!

They have a 2002 'Busa for $3000!

akumabito - 3/9/05 at 12:25 PM

I've posted a message on the largest motorcycle forum of Holland, see if they know more about these guys..

I'll let you know when someone posts a reply!

pajsh - 3/9/05 at 04:14 PM

Excuse my ignorance but what is the car in your post/avatar in the Williams colours.

pajsh

akumabito - 3/9/05 at 04:30 PM

Hmm, I posted the website on a motorcycle forum, and after 15 replies, the general opinion seems to be: "for those prices and weird payment options it must be a hoax, and everyone who goes near those bikes is an idiot for trusting those people, because you can be sure you'll never see your money again."

Andy North - 3/9/05 at 04:54 PM

Guess that means he was blowing smoke up my a**e then. There was another guy here who was going to buy one following his recommendation.

Needless to say we will be trying to get hold of him next week

Gav - 4/9/05 at 10:12 AM

Interesting, has any actually rung thm?
the area code is a bit odd but seems to be one of these

Winston Todge - 4/9/05 at 11:42 AM

Tried phoning a few times now and always get answer phone... Interesting point too Gav as it seems to be free to set it up resulting in a number that looks professional enough but not actually costing a thing.

I'm sure this must be a hoax of some sort, but would still be very interested to hear from your mate Andy and the other guy that was ordering one on his recommendation.

Thanks, Chris.

greggors84 - 5/9/05 at 11:14 PM

The prices look great, could always go down there and check it out next time im in london. I'm sure they couldnt object to collecting the bike in person.

Peteff - 5/9/05 at 11:29 PM

Try looking them up on Google. They are not registered on there unless you try the actual site address. Doesn't sound very promising.edit:- They only advertise the bikes and don't actually have them in stock so it may be pot luck whether you get a genuine advertiser or not.

Andy North - 6/9/05 at 05:21 AM

I was discussing what's been said with the other guy who was going to get one. He wondered if it was some sort of pyramid scheme i.e. several do get delivered and you tell everyone about it and the second batch don't arrive??

Rorty - 7/9/05 at 04:59 AM

Sounds like a classic "steal-to-order" operation.

Andy North - 9/9/05 at 05:24 AM

Recieved this reply from the guy at work (on leave)

Andy,

I got notice to say that my bike had arrived in the Philippines and customs wanted 40% import duty and 20% GST. Vine Banu said that they would deliver the bike free with all customs duties paid. Customs confiscated the bike due to non payment of duty and I recieved my money back from World Frieght Express.

Regards,
Jonno

Definitely a con

greggors84 - 11/9/05 at 01:23 AM

Sounds like they did actually send the bike then. If you had it posted to withun the Uk you would have no problems with import taxes.

Andy North - 11/9/05 at 06:22 AM

He say's it was delivered, but I think the lesson from this is that if it's too cheap to be true, then something just is not right.

akumabito - 1/10/05 at 04:41 PM

Sorry to dig up this old thread again, but has anyone tried to open that site lately? I was just talking to a friend about cheap bikes whenI remembered this thread, but it seems the company has "disappeared"...

[sarcasm] wow, never expected that to happen! [/sarcasm]

Winston Todge - 1/10/05 at 05:05 PM

Not overly surprised to be honest...

Had to be too good to be true.

Still quite surprised to see that they delivered the bike to the Phillipines though...

Chris.
