£1,000 for an engine - still locost? You decide!

1,000 quid may seem lke a lot of money for a Locost engine, but here is a 4.2 liter TVR Cerbera engine complete with transmission.. obviously, the bragging rights and the wow-factor alone would justify the expense.

question is "why was it taken out?"

AJP V8 in the Cerb isn't known for it's reliability...

"The engine was running fine before it was removed , it was removed because the car was in an accident."

My Pinto cost me more than that

Not strictly true. The AJP8 is actually quite reliable. One guy is on about 120k with his although he is now getting an engine refresh as it was out anyway for other work. The only thing to go wrong with mine was an alternator, a throttle cable, and a TPS sensor that was noisy. (2 1/2 years and 15k miles from me, 47k in total) The engine itself is fairly bulletproof if it's looked after.

The Speed6 isn't so reliable and people have had more than one rebuild in relatively short periods. The story is that the most recent rebuilds are sorted now but very few people have enough miles on the clock to confirm that.

...I wonder if this is a typical price for such engines?

Despite it being in used condition, and possibly not the most reliable engine, it is also fairly compact, and I've read that the engine only weighs in at a little under 130 kgs. Plus of course it produces a monstrous 350 Hp!

and it went for :

Winning bid: £2,510.97

a nice nissan sunny gtir / pulsar engine for £650 + £430 worth of goodies = 310 bhp and good reliability
