I went to my local Lidl store today and they didn`t have any. Are they listed for going on sale this thursday as some stores put out their sale stock earlier than others according to the staff at my local store.

My wife just walked past and looked over my shoulder... "what's an electronic digital catapillar?".

And she got a new pair of glasses today as well - maybe she needs her money back...

I'm on my second battery with mine, with the third a spare in the case (justincase).
It's been one of the most useful purchases ever made after a decent hammer.
It was one of Lidl's offerings.

Cheers,

Colin

The Woolworths one has a, I presume, serial output port on it too. Quite a nice feature for the money.

Can you confirm that it has a serial port and have you any details of the functionality?

Cheers,

Colin

I have the Mitutoyo equivalent - but mine's about 15 years old. Cost me over £90 then! Wouldn't be without it though - I use it almost every time I go in the garage.

Mine has a serial output, but I've never used it - I believe a special plug is required.

Does anyone know if these are available in store, or just for ordering online?

Cheers
Alex

You will need a converter if you want to plug the caliper output into a PC. The caliper interface is a proprietary synchronous protocol, not RS232.

If you want to DIY it: http://www.pcmx.net/gauge/

ecosse - 17/1/07 at 05:13 PM

I'm sure there is a good reason why i would want to output it to a PC, but i'll be buggered if can think of it!

Please enlighten me?

Cheers

Alex
PS
Computers are my job, but sometimes i can't see the wood for the tree's

Quite often used in SPC quality control etc. where parts are measured to gather data on the range of tolerances etc. and stored on a database.

The other cunning, and locost relevant plan is that you could use these as low cost linear encoders to add to a small lathe or milling machine.

Bump as these went back upto £12.50 (Always been £12.50 instore) online but they've dropped back to £7.50 - order online and collect at store

JoelP - 14/4/07 at 09:25 PM
