Cheap because there's no suspension. People want comfort on the bikes these days.

You get what you pay for. If they are sold at £45 each then they will prob cost about £20 each to make. Its amazing this can be done, but if you look
closely you'll see where the costs have been cut.
My wife has a new cheap bike like the above, I would rather swap it for an old 2nd hand 'good quality' bike any day.
being a bit of a cyclist myself..................
unfortunately those bikes will almost certainly put you off cycling altogether once you ride them!
They will make you think that all bikes have gears that perpetually need adjusting, brakes that don't work and need perpetual adjusting etc etc
etc.

you'd be better to spend £90 on one bike and take turns to ride it
I haven't got one but to be honest the Universals are not bad bikes for the money if you just want a shopping and errand hack. I assembled one for a neighbour, everything needed tightening and adjusting. I'll stick with my Giant though.

Told her not to waste my time and buy a new hwheel. Now compare that to mavic rims that can support my whole
weight without any spokes laced, but then mavic rim costs about 1/5 price of the bike. I've just bought a Bike from Dave Hinde, that I;m hoping to use around twice a week this year in an attempt to get a bit fitter and lose a little

Anyway, can anyone suggest a good (enough) pair of bikes for my parents? They won't have a lot of money to put towards them, but my Dad asked me
to help as he was looking in Halfords as they had an offer on some. I'd rather not suggest anything decent because I don't believe they will
use them after they've had a few goes, so second hand might be a good call!

I have no time for cheapo bikes. I was once behind two kids who were ramping off curbs like most kids. The front kids forks sheared off slamming his
face into the road. Not pleasant at all and he was having seizures as I called the ambulance and his jaw was well smashed up. His dad came over
totally in distraught especially when he realised it was down to the bike he'd bought his kid...
Not a nice day 
Every couple of years the local cycle hires at the Peak trails like Middleton Top and Waterhouses have a clearout of their old bikes. These are all maintained to a good standard and are quality machines and they went for £70 each last time. Check if you have anything similar in your area.
Contact your nearest Police station, they sell off recovered bikes every few months.
In Norwich I know they usually have loads.
