Good MIG welding instruction sites

I was nosing round a favourite web site (instructables) when I spotted the first link below.

Instructables MIG welding

This starts off sounding very amateurish, but it soon becomes very sensible. There are one or two things that could be better, but it's mostly very good. It had a reference to another site at the end.

Now, I admit that it would be easy to pick holes in both of these sites - but they'd both get a newbie welder going down the right path. I wish that they'd been available when I was first trying to use a MIG welder!

and as i have had some of his work i can deff say that man can weld like a machine

That's a bargain! I learned more in a 1-day welding course at the local agricultural college than I could ever have done by other means - but if you can't find direct teaching like that, then any guidance is welcome.

Is that for 1 on 1 training If so a bargain. My weldings very patchy one day fantastic another rubbish.

That could be your welder. We had one at work that would weld all morning lovely go for dinner come back and it would weld crap. It blew up in the end.

That course isnt bad. Id like to do a course or something for TIG welding.

Keep an eye open for the Otley College 1-day courses - they used to run them once or twice a year. When I did mine, they were running stick, MIG and oxy-acetylene courses. They may be doing TIG now (if they're still doing the 1-day thing any more, that is).

Update: They're only doing 1-day MMA (stick) and MIG courses - £70 for a one-day course, max 5 people isn't a bad rate though, all things considered.

i taught myself to mig weld about 20 yrs ago and then later did an advanced gas sheilded welding couse when as i needed the qualification for a job i was doing. when it comes to mig welding you can have as many lessons as you want but there is no substitute for time spent practising.when we took a school leaver on as an apprentice at work last year i gave him a bit of tuition and then parked a welder next to the scrap bin and left him welding offcuts of box section together. it didnt take him long to get the hang of it. practice makes perfect an all that. m
