thought i would give it a try got some wire and a botlle of argon from machine mart (vat free on sunday)

first attempt




and then played with the wire speed and power which gave this





what do you think

not bad. not the prettiest of welds i'm sure you'll agree, but looks like a bit more practice and it could be pretty good

Looks pretty good for mig and a first attempt. Is it the same technique as mild steel?

I don't think you'd trust yourself to weld the wings on a 747 just yet!

i had to move a lot faster when welding the ally than welding steel. my son sleeps above the garage so had to give up for the night so with a bit more practice and a few more tweeks of wire speed and power setting hopefully it will get better. hope to cut and shut my zetec sump.

Up the power and wire speed it needs to be higher then steel

think i have the power right but gave up for the night for the next try i was going to up the wire speed a bit
