Beading aluminium tube

Does anyone here have the facilities to bead 1.6mm wall aluminium tube?

I will need various lengths of pipe made up for the intercooler plumbing for my car. Most will be short lengths.

Not exactly local to you but Car Builder Solutions have made up pipes for me in the past .

cbs can do it £3 per bead depends if you need loads doing

is that nipple beading tool still at b&q? i keep looking out for it but never seen one.
I want to bead my pipes after those lads got burnt recently.

We made one up quite easily. Lathe up your male and female rollers, ideally mount them on a roller bearing but not really necessary. Then we found drilling and tapping the vice jaws the easiest way and mount the rollers on the side of a vice.

Put your tube over the male roller then wind the vice steadily while turning your tube round. Once the die has bottomed you should be left with a nice bead.

Simples.

I was one of those lads. Thats why i now know cbs charge £3 a bead lol

I followed the advice on here before and use one of the plumbing beading tools from B&Q, it works a treat at putting a 'lip' on the ally pipes for the rubber hoses to bite into.

Very locost at £10ish!

That would be great if you are passing, i've tried a medium sized store and a super huge buggar and still no joy.

I would be interested to know where this B&Q tool can be found. Tried my local ( Chelmsford ) with part number and it did it seem to exist on their computer any more.

Got mine from the Big store in Peterborough lat year.

I picked mine up on the way back from Newark show, thus it cost me nothing in petrol costs.


B&Q do those Pliers, at £13. (Metal Oyster Kit B&Q part no 0000003344668 )
Dont know if this helps... they dont show up on their webiste, and never were easy to find.

I would go down to the block and quade but some one has broken the car

I will check what part of the plumbin dep they are in other wise I will buy some and pass them on

I found them on the plumbing pipe fittings section (not in the tools section) low down the display, prepacked with 2 15mm pipe fittings. Took me around 1/2 hr to find them, assistants had not got a clue what I wanted

If you know someone with an AC TIG welder (like me ) then just put a bead of weld around the end of the pipe. Simpler than pressing a bead into the tube wall and just as effective...

Yep that's where they are in my local B&Q (a warehouse store).

Got one of those oyster beading tool whatsits from B&Q today, seems to do the job. Creates a bead of lots of little dots around the tube. Will certainly stop hoses blowing off.

£15 from B&Q, found in the plumbing section
