05 vauxhall vectra TDCI- compression test adapter
robocog - 16/6/10 at 09:42 PM

Got a 55 plate Vaux Vectra diesel in at work and we need to do a compression test on it

None of our adapters fit in the glow plug threads as Vaux in their wisdom have used a 9mm thread (opposed to the bunch of 10mm adapters we have with our tester)

Been trying to find an adapter "off the shelf" but failing dismally

Think the bosses were even willing to buy a new compression tester kit ...but only if it had the required 9mm adapter and was available pretty damned sharpish

all the kits I have found only have 10mm and upwards :-(

I vaguely offered to clear out my shed to a point where I can gain access to my lathe to try and cobble some kind of adapter together....but it would have to involve buying a 9mm bolt pre threaded or buying a 9mm die as the lathe is way past any screwthreading capabilities

Open to suggestions of where to look to try and get one pre made and fit for purpose

(I know the Silverline, Draper and Sealey kits and the countless re-branded same pruduct in blow moulded case only have 10mm upwards, despite them suggesting suitable for Vaux engines), which kind of rules out the usual places I've been looking

Rob

same problem with my compression tester for the zetec although the thread is the correct one the dept is too short

I bet vauxhall can sell you one of their specialist tools

is this any use, if its a 1.9 cdti then look for fiat or alfa as fiat make them and alfa and gm amongst others use them

OK cheers
Have rung local Vaux place, got put through to parts dept. they couldn't directly help but got promised a call back from their 'tools man' before close of business...which didn't happen

Wish they would list what size glow plug adapters the kits contain rather than the vauge descriptions of "comprehensive" or otherwise
(esp when asking so much money for a gauge and a bunch of hollow tubes!)

I have faith that Sykes Picavant would be able to tell me if I ring them tomorrow what kits contain what adapters and will follow that lead up...cheers for reminding me about them

(I used to live very close to SP way back when and still have some SP tools which have survived the past 20 odd years of abuse and much skin loss and are as good as the day I bought them, despite being operated by a ham fisted clot)
