been taking my gearbox out a few times lately, think a transmission jack type thing would be useful, however...
what would you all sugest?
can a normal trolley jack be converted to a type that can hold a gearbox steady?
been thinking of a motorcycle lift type thing, makro have them for aout £30 sometimes, they tend to be very tall though.
whats my options? somehow converting my trolley jack would be pretty good

ah cheers craig, i'd seen that on another site somewhere, but think it only works on one particular jack, which i don't have.
wonder if my current trolley jack (which is a pretty good one) can be converted in any way?
They do a specific one too.

Surely you could fab a cradle up that replaces the pad on the top of your jack when you are doing the box http://tiny.cc/ud3yi

Yeah but remove the Pad and Blot the Cradle to the Top of the jack. you may need to drill a couple of holes but that should be a problem if you can make a cradle

When I was a lad we used to just lay the box on our chest, slide under the car and lift it into position, they don't weigh that much!

With a face like mine, that wasn't a concern
