You can live without the compressor , to be useful for anything other than blowing up tyres it would have to be big and expensive.

Buy yourself a set of IRWIN Bolt Grip sockets for dealing with rounded bolts on donor parts.
Get two angle grinders one can be a cheap 115mm which you can use a a wire brushing rusty bolts before attempting to get them off, !25mm is better for cutting.
For cutting discs buy the ultra thin ones, for light grinding and smoothing buy the sanding flap discs.
A 3/8" drive socket set is very handy, you will probably also need torx sockets and hex sockets.

1/2" drive power bar (if your feeling flush buy a 3/8" as well)
A brake pipe fairing tool this type works well

Most used tools:

Little flip out Allan key set
Rivet gun (spend money on a good swivel head version)
High quality cordless drill
Rathet spanners
Flush cut pliers (for tin snips)
Torches (get at least 3 LED torches)

A swearing dictionary so you can look up the precise invective to use when an awkward bolt won't shift as easily as the skin from your knuckles.
