Measuring 12 point spline / tri square sockets
r1_pete - 25/4/16 at 10:40 AM

My Porsche flywheel is bolted on using 12 point socket head bolts.

Can someone help me with how to measure them, from point to point it measures 11.5mm, so would that be an M12 socket?

I just want to buy a single socket, as I'll probably never use it again, so don't want to buy a set.

I thought I had a pinto head bolt socket, which from memory looked a similar size, but I can't find that.....

Cheers.

Pete.

11.6mm is M12.

I'm not sure how you size them to a socket, but asking a good nut & bolt supplier they may know the answer or better still the size you need. I can't imagine a Porsche dealer being too helpful although a Porsche mechanic may be if you can speak to one.

Whats the point of buying one socket a set of the common sizes cost buttons on eBay.

12 point spline is just a normal hex socket with double spaced hex. most standard sockets are double hex.

ETA -
apologies they are female bolt!
in which case i got these - cheap as chips and more than up to job for even heavy duty jobs.
