What am I searching for?

As with anything on the Internet, if you know how to exactly describe what you're looking for, you can find it.... unfortunately I can't describe it in Google'ese!!

I'm after a 1/4" hex socket, on a 3/8" square drive. The problem I'm facing is that because 1/4" is also a standard drive measurement, I get those responses instead.

The closest I've got is 'screwdriver bit holder', which is essentially what I'm after. But I want it for a 3/8" drive, as I'll be putting a bit more torque than normal through it. Having sheared quite a few 1/4" adaptors I just want to get a bog standard socket that can go straight on to a ratchet with no adaptor.

And of course, the word 'imperial' seems to make very little difference, if anything I just end up getting more shops from across the pond.

You can definitely get a 3/8” drive screwdriver socket, I have one but make sure you get one that has a retainer for the screwdriver bit rather than just a 1/4” hex. Can’t remember what they are called or where I got it from , it may be called a 3/8”drive bit holder?

That's the one, thanks!! AF, I forgot that description. Looks nice and meaty too.

bit late but
a search for "3/8drive screwdriver bits" should find them
but also note many 'old fashioned' impact drivers have screwdriver bits and an adaptor, mostly from 1/2 inch sq.

Yes I checked my impact driver first, but it's a 3/8 inch hex socket. Going from 1/2 inch drive to 3/8 inch hex is a fair bit easier, it's the 3/8 inch drive to a 1/4 inch hex that I was stuck on. I'm guessing it's because normally you wouldn't want to apply too much torque through a 1/4 hex.

Thanks for the reply though.

Are you sure the one in the link is a bit driver-rather than a 1/4” AF socket?

It's to drive a tool that has a 1/4" drive, there isn't a need to retain the bit.
