How can I paint chrome?
shades - 7/1/07 at 01:32 PM

I have the chome headlights that came with my tiger kit. After a couple of years in the garage they are showing signs of surface rust. Question is I'd rather they be black. How can I paint these? Just spray over the chrome, sand first?

Id be tempted to remove all the chrome first and then paint.

If stripping the chrome's not an option, I'd sand the surface with "wet & dry" then put etch primer on to seal in the chrome, then use high build primer, flat it all back to nice and smooth then paint in the chosen colour.

Second that idea, sounds spot on...

Get them powdercoated, most places will use a pretty evil etching fluid on them before they coat!

Beat me too it, you should be able too get them blasted and powder coated for no more than £20, the finish will be as good as spayed paint and last forever, well almost.

I rubbed mine down to stop any flaking and sprayed them with PJ1 high temperature paint.
