Air compressor for £60 - my calculations say 270 Litres per min is
about 9 CFM. Can that be right??

That's the free air delivery so it might be a bit optimistic. I have a V twin 3hp that doesn't claim that much but at the price that is still very good. I'm going to get the rattle gun with sockets.

Get a gravity feed gun and you'll be fine for painting. I used to use a little constant feed one for doing panels blow ins and it was nowhere near as strong as that one. The gun I use now was £10 off ebay and it's great for stuff like nosecone and wings. I wish I'd bought 2 or 3 of them for spares now but I haven't seen them since at that price.
They are quoting displacement not Free Air delivery ---- FAD is always a lot less. the relationship between the two depends on the volumetric
efficiency of the compressor.

As others have said its the FAD that you need to know.

My mate at work go one last year. Its very good and will power the air gun well.
Ideal for spraying. Its better than mine and mines good for it.
I have one from last time the offer came around much better than some other offerings.
last time thay flew out of the door as quickly as they could get them off the pallet...
It's about the bigest compresor you can get for a single cylinder, but... You can connect two up together as the second outlet is before the
regulator...

It may be 18 CFM but at atmospheric pressure, not at the 90psig you want for air tools. At 90 psig it will be just under 3CFM hence my desire for a big receiver. Otherwise, you use it faster than the compressor can supply it.
That's where the free air delivery figure comes in. As a rule of thumb it is roughly 2/3 the cfm but doubling up on the pumps doesn't automatically double the cfm figure. Having bigger receiver will not improve the rate it recovers, it will take longer to fill it back up to the operating pressure you need if you are beating the supply. If I use a gun at 40psi my compressor will refill the tank faster than the gun can empty it but if I use 90psi it will run continuously and pressure will drop lower than needed till I stop and let it catch up.
