Hi
Need some advice.
Looking for a small welding kit that can live in the trailer for trackside repairs (Arn't mudwing mounts a pain..) I am wondering if you can get
such a thing as an Oxy set that works off small (disposable?) bottles or a very small Mig, any ideas anybody?

Ok, i'll define Small..
Able to carry in 1 hand, fit in the trailer with all the other rubbish etc etc.
Just got a card through the door from machine mart - VAT off all clarke kit. Don't know if Clarke do anything suitable for your needs, but worth a look.
You could look at the latest inverter migs. They are small and powerful and some will run from generator power. They are not cheap though.

B&Q used to do at little tiny gas set with disposable cylinders about the size of a milk bottle. I think the make was Bernzomatic. These are great
for little diddy emergency jobs.
I would think that the heat output wasn't too great and the gas per litre is expensive.
As mentioned a BOC Portapak with the smallest bottles, on a little trolley or a frame with carrying handle is probably favourite.

went into machine mart yesterday and asked the guy at the counter said they not doing the no vat deal for a few weeks so will stick with getting the £30 of vouchers UncleFista have you tried to run the mig from a normal plug socket and does it run ok
Thanks All.
That Miniportapak looks just the job, though must go and find out about the Arc Welding with a Car Battery, that sounds really interesting..
You'll not weld arch supports with the mini portapack, it will not generate enough heat for thick metal.

It's vat free day this Sunday and next at our local Machine Mart in Mansfield, not much help for you in Glasgow though.
thanks for that i will get it at the weekend and get the vouchers no doubt they will come in handy for some other tool i will need to get
cheers Davie
i only get invites to the bradford branch, but i got a clark 160te welder last weekend, collecting today! You need to be on their list as they do the vat free sessions during normal closing times, ie sundays and evenings.
