Compressors in parrallel for higher CFM?
garage19 - 9/5/07 at 04:05 PM

I have what i thought was a fairly large compressor in the workshop.

It is a SIP industrial with a twin cylinder 3 hp motor and 150 litre tank. Its free air delivery is right on the minimum limit needed for a blast cabinet/system that i have been offered at a bargain price.

If i bought another secondhand compressor could i run it in parrallel to deliver a higher CFM?

Could i just run the blaster for short stints allowing the compressor to catch up filling the tank in between???

Yes you can link them together to get higher CFM.

Make sure you use a nice large bore hose too.

I would be more worried by the starting curent of both coming on to gether.

If you've got a large tank should be no problem for short blasts. 3hp should be around 15cfm which is enough to run any "normal" machinery I've come across.

i plan on doing the same with my 1.5hp and 2.0 25l compressors if ever i'm in need of a little more 'oomph'.

i run two together and it doesnt actually seem to provide any more oomph than one by itself! Sure, it keeps the air grinder going constantly, but the impact wrench is pathetic whatever i do!

Air grinders need more air for longer than a impact wrench which just needs short bursts --- suspect something wrong with the impact wrench ie sticking vanes, try oiling it.

My impact wrench when linked to my 7.5 cfm compressor will undo 3 wheel nuts.

Should I buy a 2CV ?
