Are you using a wireless connection to your router? If so it is possible that you have a poor wireless connection which is causing the rubbish speeds.

Otherwise complain to BT

eccsmk - 19/7/09 at 09:45 PM

sorry you've lost me

i really am the most useless person EVER when it comes to computers
sorry

graememk - 19/7/09 at 09:48 PM

go and unplug everything thats pluged into your bt but leave your internet connection in, also remove the bt connection to sky, leave nothing pluged in but your internet connection router usb modem etc

then see if its quicker

eccsmk - 19/7/09 at 09:50 PM

will do and then will report back

MautoK - 19/7/09 at 09:51 PM

Just tried it:

Bit more than 50 miles to M'head from here!!!

eccsmk - 19/7/09 at 09:53 PM

hasnt made any difference

MautoK - 19/7/09 at 09:56 PM

...and again:

graememk - 19/7/09 at 09:56 PM

is the router / modem in the master socket ?

austin man - 19/7/09 at 09:58 PM

just gone into internet tools and removed all history cookies etc
and upped my speed massively it was .4 prior to this

eccsmk - 19/7/09 at 09:59 PM

nope
the master socket is 2 rooms away we did try connecting it to the master socket via an extension lead but it wouldnt work.

so im using a spur(?) socket which is wired using all the wires (rather than just 3? )

graememk - 19/7/09 at 10:01 PM

take the front off the master socket, move the pc to it and try the speed

eccsmk - 19/7/09 at 10:05 PM

this is beyond a joke

anyone recommand a decent ISP (ooh check me out using tintraweb lingo )

[Edited on 21/7/09 by eccsmk]

iank - 21/7/09 at 07:27 PM

Most other ISP's will be using the same hardware at the exchange as BT so it won't make any difference.

First thing to do is ring up and complain and have the line checked. Are you out in the boonies a long way from the exchange?

That is using a mains powerlink between modem and PC.

eccsmk - 21/7/09 at 07:38 PM

smack bang 8 miles from the middle of nowhere

tried to talk to them today they just said they would look into it.
my connection has been fine for 3 years cant se why it has slowed so much in the last few months

oh wel it could be worse
it could be raining

JoelP - 21/7/09 at 09:26 PM

i managed to cut my phone line whilst pruning a bush the other day! that was a fun was to learn how it all works...

You could try an ISP that'll use a local exchange, I'm under 50 miles from Manchester and our exchange is 3 miles away... Getting a constant 2-3 meg after BT fixing their lines about 4 times

bimbleuk - 22/7/09 at 04:57 AM

I'm 2.5 miles from my exchange so the result below is at the maximum I can expect from that distance on a 24Mbit ADSL2 connection. I still feel a bit isolated as we don't have cable which would get me a decent all in package.

dan__wright - 22/7/09 at 12:28 PM

upload ftw! and thats with 250 people currently using it aswell

Ninehigh - 22/7/09 at 11:36 PM

Work tinternet... not bad really, I'll post one from home too when I remember
