Deffo rum Malwarebytes. Sounds like you got a "drive-by" download via your browser. I have had this several times with computers on my
network here in the office. Internet Explorer is more vulnerable than Firefox but the latest IE-8 with all the updates seems to be better.
When I get this problem I run spybot and then Malwarebytes. The combination of these two seem to clear up the virus/es. Malwarebytes catches a few
that spybot always seems to skip.
If the problem you go showed up as an "anti-virus" program, it actually contains a slew of trojans and worms as a package. The scum that
invented the fake anti-virus , auto download/install package actually sell space in it to other scum who want their malware on your computer.
If it is the virus I encountered a couple of weeks back nothing will shift it but a reformat and reinstall.
The computer/internet work fine its just google sometimes its ok sometimes i get redirected to another site. Tried malwarebytes done the job but its still here.
Dave, which OS are you using (XP/Vista)? and which anti-virus programme?

Dave - If Malwarebytes hasn't helped then try this application - Combofix.
As the name suggests it fixes a few issues but generally does well with BHO (Browser Hijack Objects). Sounds like you still have a resident BHO
hijacking your traffic to Google.
Instructions are great and forum support is good too. You'll probably not need it though - it's fairly self explanatory!
