what to use to back up photo Archive to Hosted Web space
Agriv8 - 2/3/11 at 09:16 PM

HI Peeps,

I have purchased some space from STRATO called HiDrive basically you get 500gb for £11 for 6 monts.

The idea is to copy the Agriv8 Photo Gallery up to it for safe keeping ( it on a raid1 NAS at home but thats no good if the house goes up ) or the 3am visitors come back !!

So ideally I need some software to copy my photo's up to the site which will allow the following Access via SMB/CIFS, FTP/SFTP/FTPS, WebDAV.

now thought one was FTP but that will not do the Sub dirs.

Some backup software ought to do it but I want the option to keep the photo's viewable while on the web so I can allow access to grandparents ect ect.

the other feature that would be good would be to have it checking for new images and uploading the new ones

So over to you experts Thanks as always Agriv8

I use coffee cup FTP for all my FTP transfers... It's free.

free 2gb to start with -

As you add more friends via facebook (or pay for more) space -

try- http://www.dropbox.com/

My laptop uploads direct and backs everything I ask it to, and if you use facebook and plug it there, everytime a friend takes the recomend you get another 250mb of free space. I have 4gb now....

It can be configured for public access, and also password protected for your family to use.

Filezilla Client has quickly become the standard for file transfer apart from FTP it will handle secure file transfer via sftp and orther secure protocols. Filezilla is 100% free ( GNU General Public License ) and under constant development.

All the various Coffee Cup programs I have tried are good but as I recall are shareware ---

JAlbum will shrink the size of the files so the grandparents don't have to d/l Gb of huge pictures, but it will also save a copy of the original as well. It gives you simple web publishing and back up as well.
