signing up to a blog
mad-butcher - 21/2/12 at 12:41 PM

Mate of mine is in the shit, he posted on a blog under a false name but had to sign up using an email address that is linked to his windows live account, seems his employers don't like what's been said on the blog although he denies it's him, he's been suspended pending further investigation, can they track his false name back to his linked email account

Delete the account and that should stump them - no evidence, no problem, however if they think it was him but can prove it they will find something else to sack him for, so he needs to be be on best behaviour and looking for a new job too!

Any more details? just to be nosy!

Err
isn't this going to make it worse as now you have :-

1. Pointed us to the wesite they have a problem with.
2. Identified it as some they have suspended.
3. Your tag says your in the wirral area.
4. Says that if they follow back they can get to his live account.

I'd suggest you delete this post or at least heavy censor it.

Your mate seems a bit stupid doing something like that, shows he does not have any credibility.

I think you could be defending the indefensible!

Depends on who runs the blog as to if they will give up the email address or not. If they do, and his company already knows that that is his email addr, then the depth of the poo will get deeper.

I see no mention of the website in question.
Just because the OP in on the Wirral doesn't mean his "mate" is.

Or are you assuming the OP is "writing on behalf of" nudge nugde

I've no idea if my live account is traceable back to me, even if I gave them my real name..

I'm persuming that he's talked smack about his employers, in which case imo he has two options.

1. Do nothing until the have indesputible proof it's him, then admit to it.
2. Prove what he's said is true.
3. Deleting the blog now wouldn't do much because if they were serious enough to suspend him then they'll have a paper copy of it now

scudderfish - 21/2/12 at 03:35 PM

Or he says "My dick of a friend used my computer as I was getting him a beer, it wasn't me and I don't know how to delete it."

Could part of the issue be that he posted during work hours from a work computer...?

If that's the case he'll more likely hang on the grounds of breaching the "use of company equipment" policy or some such.

Some gory details would be good

gottabedone - 21/2/12 at 05:29 PM

To be honest - probably not. If your mate committed a crime then his login details, e-mail address and ip address could be requested from whoever hosts the blog but that's a lot of effort.
Deleting the account won't help as there will be cached copies on the net and as already said - anyone can hit print.

If you mate's done it from a work machine on a monitored network then basically he's stupid and screwed!

........edited to say that most work networks also have a "no right to privacy" policy.

What he does next in his defence is down to conscience and balls
