If it just pictures and documents and the pictures are jpg then use Flickr to store the pics (1tb free) and leave the onecloud amd icloud for docs, Flickr will also hold limited vudeo aswell.

Most NAS devices come with remote access. D-link sharecentre with 2 drives (set up in RAID so the disks copy themselves- back-up of a back-up!) does the job for me. It's very simple, couple of 2Tb drives, screw simply into the drive holders, plonk them and switch it on. Setting it up is straightforward also. Sharecentre device is about £40 and couple of large HDs nowadays is also. £100 ish total??

Most wifi modems will have network sockets in the back so setting up the network is as simple (usually) as plugging the NAS into the router/modem.

I've got one of the western digital NAS boxes. It works really well. Mine has 2tb plus has usb so I used my old 1.5tb usb drive to give me more storage than I really need.
