My internet connection is being rather stupid.
Having reset the router and reconnected to the net you can visit one website. After that you cannot visit any others. If you reset the connection
again, you can visit another website, but again only that one.
You just get an error saying the site cannot be found, or something similar.
Same prob with both firefox and IE.
I have checked all the settings in the router. And cant see anything it can possibly be.
Anyone got any ideas?

OK so its started working again now. How ever it has been doing this most of the day, and its begining to be a bit annoying!
So, you can go to locostbuilders.co.uk, but then it won't load anything else, but you can still browse around locostbuilders.co.uk even though
you can't get to anything else?
That sounds like a DNS problem. You need to find a secondary DNS server and specify that in your configuration. I always switch to 4.2.2.2 when my
DNS goes dodgy.
Right-click on "Network Places", select properties, right-click on your connection, properties...
TCP/IP, properties.
at the bottom, switch to "Use the following DNS server addresses", punch in 4.2.2.2 for one of them, then hit OK twice.
If you now can browse 'til you're blue in the face, then it's a DNS issue. If that doesn't fix it, it may be something else...
contact your ISP.
That DNS server is verizon's, here in the states, so it may not even serve DNS to you way over there in limeyville. Worth a shot anyway.
When you think it's fixed again, switch back to automatic DNS.

I did have this problem before with PlusNet. Who's your ISP?
It was to do with the MTU settings... This maybe a little hard to alter if you use a router but the rough process is described here:

It worked in my case and the symptoms were exactly the same.... BUT they were also doing work on the exchanges after a hefty thunderstorm the week
before. The day I fiddled with MTU was the same day they finished the work at the exchange... So it could have been a bit of both tbh...

Thats basically the problem yep.
I have set both the primary and secondary DNS to the address' given to us by the internet company. And it didnt really make any difference.
Could be the ISP. If so its the first service problem we have had from them in over a year.

Dns servers sometimes get thier database servers corupted when they update trouble is because of the way dns works usually it will affect both the
isps main backup servers.
Ways round this --
(1)Specify another ISPs' dns server as one of your dns servers -- this worked a treat for me when I was with BT Openworld.
(2) Run a caching dns server on your own PC -- for Windows users I can recommend "Treewalk" which is (a lightweight version version of
(the industry standard) Bind for Windows -- works well if you have have memory and disc space to spare.
(3) Use a program that adds IP addresses of site visted to your hosts file.
