Anything AGP will fit in the brown slot

Yep pretty much any type of AGP card. Assuming its not more than about 4 years old when AGP2x was still around, a lot of newer cards wont work on less than 4x.

Just thought I would point that out...

Cheers guys, I'll take another troll through ebay
Not much luck with anything old there, how can i tell what age of card the board needs ?? ie: 1X,2X,4X or 8X ??
thanks

Jason

Have a look through the manual that came with the main board, or if you haven't got it have a look for mainboard type and model number marked on the board itself and google it, hopefully you should find a spec sheet or something.

I have a Nvidia Geforce 2 AGP if it's of use for a drink. U2U me

Cheers

Download Sandra,
http://www.sisoftware.net/
This will tell you what motherboard you've got, its agp capeability and benchmark it so you can see what you've gained for all your efforts when you've got the new card in.

Deckman001 - 6/11/05 at 10:45 PM

Rich, any idea where abouts on the board the info might be ??

ReMan, had a look at the site, powerfull stuff, but i think the sandra stuff will be more than the graphics card it would be used to proscribe ???
I can link the comp to the net via B/Band anyone got a tool that i can borrow ???????

Jason

Other option is i guess, to use a spare m/board i have it's a GIGABYTE 7VM400M-RZ anyone know if i can put the old amd Duron in it ????

Thanks
Jason

There seems to be a shareware (lite) version....

ReMan - 6/11/05 at 11:29 PM

I use Everest home edition, which is also free and tells you what is inside the computer. If your motherboard is the newer type you need a 1.5v card or you may permanently damage the board, check it carefully.

Good point well made Pete!

Deckman001 - 7/11/05 at 06:26 PM

Hi all, got the info, just not too sure how to read it
AGP
Version 2.00
Max Data Rate 4X
Side band support Yes
Side band enabled No
Apperture size 64MB

???????????? Does this mean i need AGP2 or 4X ???????

thanks

Jason

flak monkey - 7/11/05 at 07:29 PM

Its a 4x. Which means prett much any new AGP card will be ok.

What are you looking for? Gaming or just internet etc?

It's gaming he's after,
Apparently he needs at least a 32Mb card for his Sims thingy , it says GeForce2 or greater NVIDIA Quatro or ATI Radeon 7200 or greater,,,,,, any recomendations????

Jason

flak monkey - 7/11/05 at 07:57 PM

I have a 256Mb Geforce FX5500 in mine. They are only about £30 now, and will run any old games. i am getting a new card soon, but can guarantee when, otherwise I would offer you mine.

To play the sims you wont need anything hugely powerful, altho alot of pretty fast cards have dropped in price recently, i would reccomend checking the current prices of the Ati Radeon 9600 pro, or the Nvidia GeForce 5900xt, both 128mb and should both come in at around 50 to 60 quid.
