I'll be moving soon and the broadband speed will be much lower. There are certain youtube videos I watch again and again, but when I move that's going to be a problem.
I did download a downloading program but it only works with video address that start with 'youtube' whereas all mine start uk.youtu etc.
Can anyone suggest a solution

I live in the sticks and my connection is only 2Mb. Watch YouTube no probs.

I use Quivic. It cost £10 and works flawlessly. There are free methods but I found them unreliable, watermarked video, only did x mins etc...

Drop the url in and it lets you download it, always worked for me and its free.
save files as a .flv which you might need something like vlc to play them back, which is also free

Use Mozilla Firefox as a browser (you can install it and still use internet explorer as well) then install any of the numerous video downloaders like Downloadhelper.

When you go to a a page with streaming video the downloadhelper icon flashes and clicking on it displays a dropdown box with the video filename for you to save. Works with flv.wmv.mpeg etc etc. As Phil says you'll probably want to use VLC player to play them back, although you won't be able to skip through .flv files on VLC player. For that you'd need a proper flash video player.
