Help needed by computer numpty.
Got a Canon DVC (MD130) and want to download the movies to my PC. As far as I can see on the PC I've got USB 2.0 and ethernet connections but
that's it. How do I go about hooking up the DVC to the PC, ideally without screwdrivers, soldering irons etc.
Thanks in advance.
Mike
Buy a fire wire adapter and slot it into a spare PCI.
Sorry about this. I promised you I was a computer numpty. What's a PCI?
PCI is a type of slot/ plug on your motherboard (inside the case)
if you have a normal / old desktop with a free PCI slot - open up the case - pop out one of the covers on the back of the case and plug in the card
you also get PCI-E cards (PCI-express) these fit a smaller / faster slot on modern motherboards
and you can get PCMCIA ones for your laptop

Thanks mcerd1,
Not only am I a bit slow on PC matters, I've been away from the UK for 11 years and when people start talking in TLA (three letter acronyms) it
loses me a bit.
I googled it and found the Prestressed Concrete Institute!
All clear now though.
Thanks,
Mike
I'm affraid that PC's are all about TLA's
mainly because nobody cares what they mean
You can get USB to firewire convertors via Ebay but I wouldn't trust them.
Certainly with Sony camcorders if you attach via the USB connector (which does make you wonder why they have the USB connector on the camera!!) you
get rubbish quality images. Firewire, meanwhile, gives beautiful quality!!
P.C.I. means Peripheral Component Interconnect.
P.C.I.E. means Peripheral Component Interconnet Express
Basically it is a physical interface direct with the motherboard of your computer.
Therefore you need a PCI or PCIE Firewire Adapter/Connector.
