i think the donkey was lying in the road and the van scared it as it got close to it.

Definitely. If you approach from further back you can see the donkey walking backwards toward the road, so either it's a very odd donkey or the car approached from the opposite direction whilst it was having a roll and then it jumped up and wandered off into the scrub.

You can go passed the donkey by the smallest amount - almost perpendicular to donkey's butt so unless donkey flung itself at great velocity at the car, I'd say it's having a roll in the dirt
