I've been watching a few things about conspiracies of varying types (intellectual interest, not that I'm particularly believing much of it!) and a lot of them mention something about a "new world order" or a "one world government", they make it sound like the first Leader Of Earth is going to destroy the planet immediately "Evil Mastermind" style.

So why are they conspiracy people so scared of a global government (like they have in Star Trek, which appears to work rather well)? Surely at worst we only have one despot in charge!
