Plastic for windows/wind deflectors.

Whats the best plasticy stuff to use for making hard windows for half doors and wind deflectors?

Iv looked in B n Q and the sheets of stuff they have is polystyrene? and says for interior use only? Is that the same as polycarbonate or what?

Cheap and off the shelf is best.

That woolies stuff is good but im thinking like 3mm. Im going to use ally for the bottom half with stiff plastic for the window. No need to have a frame then and muchos easy to do.

I have nicked the idea from Piddy. He'l probably beat me up on sunday when i see him.

Lexan, but be aware it scratches easily, and don't even think of wearing Polarized sun glasses while driving, turns the scenery to look like oil on water.

Place in Cherry Hinton near Cambridge that sells Lexan if that's any help Dan. Engineering and Design Plastics . Sells offcuts as well

If the windows are flat then the best stuff to use is polycarbonate with a hard coating for scratch resistance. (Lexan Margard MR-5E , Marlon fs Hard, Arla Saphir).

Hi Dan,

Just made my side doors and I used Lexan which is absolutely perfect. The specific type I used is 3mm thick FMR5XT which is designed for external glazing and has 'high abrasion resistance' on both sides and is made by GE plastics. Should be able to get that from Ipswich plastics I would've thought?

I'll be at Diss for the next meeting in a week or so, but I'm only based about 10 miles from Stowmarket if you want to come and have a look at the doors.

I went to my local "glazier" and got some "poly" same stuff they use in bus shelter windows. Can be cut with a saw drilled milled,melted etc. About 6mm thick Used it on my landorver to build the back of the truck cab.
