ernie - 28/3/04 at 09:21 AM

yes! I have done it, I made my own bonnet, thanks to advice by eddy and using the ratchet strap system, a large rubber hammer(screwfix) and no swearing. I looks soo good that my father in law, who fixed up broken spitfires during the war (yawn) could not work out how without using formers etc. so thanks guys. ps I would post some photos but I`m not that good at coms

Now you've made one, maybe you could make another one for me.

Bonnets are easy I made a scuttle out of ali and that made the bonnet seem like a walk in the park. ernie well done for trying it out and getting it right. You could just go buy the fiberglass version and take the easy way out.

What Im fishing for is a former for DIY louvers. I found a webpage a while ago
that had a method for making said cuts.

Any one got a better way? Like to hear what ideas the boys have on making these.

I would make you 1 adam but today (sunday) after putting kent cam in for race series i find valves hitting pistons and i`m fed up because the engine which came with the bits of car I bought was rebuilt by persons unknown!

Not DIY, but sheet metal shops with beading machines could do them easily. Might be worth asking around.

Could you please explain the method? (I'm approaching that job!). Or could you point me to a reference for previous discussions

David

Go to http://www.whirl.demon.co.uk/locost/ and click on the link to "second half of 2002" (feck, how long have I been building this car?!)

Ta!

Mark Allanson - 30/3/04 at 07:58 PM

Did you put any folds in the front and back of the bonnet? I have been trying to figure how to this for a while.

I will be doing my bonnet within the next fortnight

eddymcclements - 31/3/04 at 12:31 PM

I didn't put a return on the front and rear edge, because they're not straight lines and it would have been difficult. Both edges have been very carefully deburred and when the bonnet is clamped in place by the over-centre clips into the recesses on scuttle and nosecone there are no sharp edges showing.

We'll see what Mr SVA has to say about it.

Eddy

Thanks Eddy, I will probably put titanfast on the exposed edges to make them more SVA friendly

Mark

Probably showing my ignorance here, but what is Titanfast ? do you have a piccy ?

Rubber 'U' section from Woollies round the ends if you are not sure they will lay flat enough.
