When my windscreen project gets towards its end I will have to plug unwanted holes in my scuttle and repaint.

Currently it's painted with bright yellow cellulose (brighter than it looks in the picture) bought from a local auto paint supplier in aerosols - nice and easy, because it was just the stock yellow used to mix into new shades. Now, of course, he can't/won't do cellulose any more so I have to look for alternatives.

As far as I can see, if have a few options:

1. Try and find another supplier who'll make up aerosols containing cellulose paint - easy option, if I can get a decent colour match. Problem is that I suspect that finding a supplier may be tough.

2. Use the same supplier, but get his aerosols charged up with an alternative paint - I suspect that this may be a pain in the long run.

3. Find a production car that has a near-identical colour and get a couple of cans of commercial respray paint - problem is identifying the right colour in the first place.

4. Get myself a touch-up spray gun and get whatever paint is available - prefer not to do this, if I can (the original aerosols were high-quality with a good spray pattern, and there was no gun cleanup afterwards).

Anyone got any bright ideas?

Also - any problems in painting over cellulose with modern stuff?

Could try halfords cans? Did he not tell you the paint codes of the original aerosols when you got them?

I have an un opened 1l tin of Yellow cellulose part code P2-7888 and also Hi gloss cellulose thinners. I am not sure what shade of Yellow it is but you may be able to look it up.

Let me know if it is suitable.

Most modern paints will go on top of cellulose but if there is any doubt you can buy isolating primer in aerosol (not expensive). The aerosols now sold at paint factors tend to be single pack acrylic so as long as you are doing a full panel and not trying to 'blend in' then you should be fine.

There are still some specialists that do cellulose, one of them is Ken and Lyn, they go to the classic shows. I expect they would need a RAL number to match to, but it might be worth giving them a call (Ken 07778165966) as they are very helpful.

Colour matching may not be a big issue - I still have a couple of off-cuts from the GRP that can be sent as examples...

Has he said he will not do the paint or are you going on legislation rumours ? The suppliers round here will still sell you cellulose paint or put it in an aerosol for you if they have the facility. The aerosols are made up with a nozzle which gives a fan like a spray gun.

No - I did ask - he just won't do it.

I think he's got rid of all his cellulose paint stock...
