.... well, some of it anyway.

I had a colour match problem with my usual paint supplier and we had to admit defeat finding a good enough match for my car. Despite having the paint code and confirming that their colour chip was spot on, the sprayed colour was very 'purple' compared to my existing paint. In a last desperate attempt to get the right colour I went to ..... HALFORDS

After wandering in the sliding doors, I tried to ignore all of the shiney glitter and wonder of the ratchet spanner sets and 'carbon' exhaust tail pipes and eventually found an employee (no one on the till, stacking shelves, or even drinking tea). I gave the rather spotty youth my paint code and carefully watched the procedure as he mixed it on their paint system which is based on Holts paints and after a while I was presented with a filled rattle can.

Now, I am used to spraying small jobs with aerosols and usually get reasonable results with my usual paint, but the Holts stuff seems to be very good by comparison - much glossier and easier to apply. Time will tell and I will see how it polishes up in a couple of weeks.

Maybe Halfords have their good points after all.

I had a good result using halfords mixed spray paint. Painted a wing on my mx5 and was pleased with the match and finish,

Yup, I found their paint mixing service quite good too!!! They do have their use after all!!

I've touched up 2 cars with halfords paint and found the colour match to be spot on.

Likwise, used them for the first time recently no problem at all..


For my Lada (Yes Lada), the match to the red was easy, we used blue.

When I tried to de-rat the GPZ I went along with a picture of a Kawasaki (in lime green of course) from a mag, hoping it would be good enough for them to mix me some and hit a brick wall

Ours doen't sell flat paint, has to be metallic

I had a chat with the manager in our local one to try and get him to sell me loose (or rather in a pot) paint - not in a rattle can and the most quantity he could sell me was in touch up pens

He seemed a nice enough chap and could see my predicament of wanting to use my compressor and apologised and he showed me a bulletin they had all got stating they could no longer sell flat paint, other than in touch up pen format

Kind of glad really as the guys that did my bike after I failed in getting any loose paint did a spanking job, which I very much doubt I could have ever acheived at home

The Halfords aerosols are definitely the best ones I've used, though you do pay a lot of the privilege. The paint seems a little thicker than most and the nozzles seem to work properly without blocking up every few minutes or dripping paint onto your freshly sprayed panel.
