Hi - this might not be the right section of the forum but it's the best fit I could find.

I'm about to start pulling apart my 1985 XL125R for a light restoration - I don't want to do a full restoration as it's not really needed, just a bit of a spruce up and set all the mechanicals up properly.

The wheels are of the chrome plated steel variety and are quite pitted in places - what's the best way to bring them up as best I can without resorting to getting them re-plated.

Solvol autosol does quite a good job.

I remember in the 70s, when my bike had to live outside, I used to give the wheels arub with a brillo pad if they got beyond what autosol could handle. Surprisingly it did't scratch or dull the chrome.

I've used autosol and se fine wire wool - comes up OK in the main, but the worst patches are fairly black. Maybe it's a case of doing as much as I can and leaving it at that.

I might get a price to re-do the wheels and re-build anyway - the spokes have been painted black at some point which really just looks crap.
