A rather different Locost...possible project?

Hi

I have just acquired (for free) another landy, a series 2 swb, unfortunately this one is a right wreck, chassis is totally nuked, running gear well worn…oh dear just a spares car

So was thinking of what to do with it then I saw this –

Aha! That looks fun but yikes its aircooled vw based, could not be bothered with that poopy power and vw parts are super expensive now also a standard beetle chassis has a wheelbase about 10 inches too long (landy’s are actually very small cars btw)

So I’m thinking what else would work with a landy shell, how about a 7! Using Google sketchup and warehouse models it looks like it would all fit, probably a wide body locost would give more leg room but all in all it seems to work well. A bit of extra spaceframe out to the standard aluminum bodywork, but easy to do

I have a 2.8 v6 in the garage…Scorpio hubs and brakes, replica lambo wheels…ho ho ho scary
With all that body work covering everything and the standard landy lights even putting it through an IVA looks simple!

I think it would be hilarious fun

Why not?

It's got built-in crumple zones too

Have you stopped taking the little purple pills?

Mad a a box of frogs, but no reason why you couldn't make it work.

You willl only see the dash from the seating postion... Way to low...

slammed land rovers can look awesome. see here

Surely that will upset the beautifully aerodynamic qualities of a seven......

wrong, wrong, wrong!!

but then I am biased!

I like you thinking

A +4 inch width chassis would be a better fit I suspect.

You'd be sat in the pickup tho, behind the cab! I nearly bought a fiberglass Mk1 Escort shell to put on mine until I realised your sat on the back axle....

your right about the seating position, its about 7 inches further back than in a landy.

To see over the dash all I'd do is raise the seats and move them forwards compaired to those in a normal 7, really much more like how you sit in a landy rather than with your legs straight out as in the normal 7, the sides of the 7 chassis in effect become more like large sills. If you look at the seating in the model I have moved them to roughly the correct position

I love that. Initially, i was thinking No! - Try a custom snatch landrover or something but then i saw benzines link!

Skip the seven chassis, make a box chassis to fir the body, fir a large V8 with side exit exhausts, and turn it into a street rod.
