I fitted my cycle wings today, I wanted to aviod the airborne GRP syndrome. The flat section of the support stress fractures and look , no cycle
wing.
I decided to do away with the transverse part of the support, and replace it with an arched section to go on the inside of the guard. I know this will
load the GRP parts, but it is not suscepible to stress fatige so the idea may work. I have fastened the guards with 4 M6 SS button hex head set
screws, they look quite neat on the inside of the molding. the guard do touch the bodywork on full lock, so I am going to have to restrict the lock on
the rack somehow, any neat suggestions?

Looks cool Mark,Iwould think the bulk of the stress would be on your fixing point though and the fibre glass around it.
Could you not weld a couple of 2" flat pieces to the support rims and PU em to the wing.
Just my two pennorth.

A couple of strong Jubilee clips on the steering rack cured too much lock on my car!

Is that Copper tube that you have used for the wing support?
If so, how mave you attached the tube to the steel mounting plate? brazing?

Nice idea, in my view the cycle wing attachment will be less prone to cracking.
I would be a little concerned about the stresses at the attachment of the two rods/tubes to the plate though, there will be quite high bendind loads
at this point which may lead to failure.
Ron's design gets around this by using the upper wishbone ball joint as an additional support. I think that's the way I'll go.

Copper, COPPER, I am a welder not a bleedin plumber!!
It is 13mm x1.6mm ERW round, The tube will be fine as for stress cracking, but I may have a problem on the HAZ area on the lower plates after a few
thousand miles - but easily fixed if I do
