Just polishing the alloy body panels with Autosol which does a cracking job. However is there anything that I can polish the panels with after to add protection? Have tried some Halfords standard car polish I had in the garage but it leaves streaks on the alloy.

Your on the slippery road of decline now, and I so wish I didn't polish my car 20 years ago, as its a mammoth task to keep it "shiney"

and to your question, no there isn't a magic sealer, that im aware of, laquer wont stay on the panel, clear film neither, if you leave it more than a week, it looks SHYTE, if you polish it with car wax, it looks SHYTE,

Aircraft metal polish some have additives that help. I use polishing mops and soap first then the aircraft polish to finish. Top up polishing is then done using the aircraft polish. When laying up there are protection oils such as duck oil to help stop oxidisation in storage... I have a tin of aircraft polish in the garage better than megures (not bad) from halfords. Snag is garage is packed due to move and can't rember the name... Anyway searching for howto polish aircraft leading edge will give some ideas..

Could you not buff up the alloy and then spray with clear coat? or wrap in clear vinyl?

I've been using Meguiars NXT.

I find that using it once or twice a year is more than enough. Easy to apply, fairly easy to clean off with some flour on a dry cloth, and leaves a nice finish.

Another vote for Original Purple Metal Polish , quicker and easier than any others I've tried

Where did you get that purple polish from? On-line, or over the counter?

The Meguiers stuff does work, but it can be a dirty process.

David, I got mine years ago from Stoneleigh but there is someone based in Yarmouth selling it on eBay , it's California Custom original purple metal polish, about £22 a bottle plus P&P but it last ages . The first time I used it it initially didn't seem to be doing anything until I wiped off the very small amount of black residue and saw the shine

I must admit it's not the easiest stuff to use, but being the sort of bloke I am I am willing to watch you practice on my car.
