Consensus on bonded bonnet & nose
Avoneer - 28/1/06 at 11:37 PM

What do people think of the idea of having the bonnet and nose cone bonded together as one big piece that lifts off as one big piece?

Could leave the join there to help looks or could smooth it out.

Just a thought.

Good idea Pat, I saw a Dax like that at Stafford show a few years back and looked good. Made for easy access to everything as well......Leave the join visible though for the outward appearance

robinbastd - 28/1/06 at 11:54 PM

No,Triton is wrong,wrong,wrong.
Lose the join Pat and don't listen to him.

Don't say you weren't warned.

Hang on, isn't this the way Robin Hood do it? I thought they were all bad ideas?

Early Sylva Strikers link and F27's link use that idea, but smoothed out.

Lots of practical advantages if you like the look IMO.

while a nice idea, it'll make the front bit that would normally be under the nosecone much harder to work on, as you can't work 'over' the nosecone as if it was just that bit hinged, and you wont be able to take it off to gain access, singlehandedly, as easily as with the nosecone seperate.

i'd not bother myself, partly for the fact that it'll hinder access, partly for the unneeded complication, and partly because at some point you'll ask me to come and help you do it and it looks like a real head scratcher to get spot on it puts a hell of a lot of stress on the bottom lip of the nosecone too, especially if open in a cross breeze.

it would be a rare thing to see though, and would definitely make your car unique at ackworth.
i'll sit on the fence, but dont hesitate to give me a shout if you do decide to do it.

Cheers Tom.

I wouldn't have it hinged.

4 normal bonnet clips on each side as per normal and one of the springy bonnet clips under the nose in the middle.

Indicators won't be a problem as they will be bonded into the front cycle wings I am pondering on making - want them long, close and mean...

Headlights would be the only worry - think they will get in the way as they are designed to fit low and close to the nose - thinking about it, once the wings on the nose and chin spoiler are all bonded in place, I'll never get it past the headlights.

So much for that idea...

Back from my death bed so will begin building again shortly - any news on your car Tom?

Could do with a hand finishing off the cradle as some point.

Cheers,

Pat...

I'm all for it. To many stories about people loosing the bonnet during driving. And putting the bonnet aside will only lead to damage (someone stepping on it for instance). Soooo, here's my go at it:

Simon - 31/1/06 at 10:17 PM

Pat,

My headlights are mounted on bar fitted into tubes laminated into bonnet. Indicators mounted as normal.

Already got my low stylee headlamp brackets welded on.

Mave - very tasty - good site - and I like what your are doing with all the carbon!

Decided to keep it all separate.
