Hubcaps!
caber - 14/9/06 at 08:27 PM

Ok when you have all stopped laughing I am trying to figure a way to get plainish chrome hubcaps to fit to 13" Ford steel wheels. In order to keep to my build budget I want to start off and SVA with these steels that I got for free. Looking at pictures of 7s many had cream painted steel wheels with simple hubcaps I would like to get this look until I can afford to get my alloys fully restored and some nice rubber on them.

Just spray the buggers up black, they don't look too bad when all is said and done.

You can get 5 1/2 x 13" steel wheels that were fitted to cars like the Lotus Cortina and Escort Mexico and were fitted with either stainless steel or chromed hubcaps that first appeared on the Ford Anglia 105E.There are usually a set or two on e-Bay.They were also fitted to early 7's.HTH.

I have been watching ebay for a couple of weeks but nothing useful has come up yet. I may have a result on some second hand alloys failing that I am still looking for hubcaps as I have a set of wheels!

The chrome centre hubcaps won't stay on Sierra or later Escort wheels as they used to fit to a lip in the centre pressing. The old Lotus 51/2Jx13 type wheels seem to command a premium price these days, the ones I've seen do anyway.

You can aqll relax now folks! Zilspeed has come to the rescue with a workable set of alloys at a price even I can afford! Thanks Zil,
