after having a word with a 'freind' who 'does' sierras i have decided i may well be keeping the 2.0i pinto with its injection gear
as is...
Before you all start shouting "IT'LL BE TOO DAMN TALL" i am aware of this, so i'm looking for a glassfibre bonnet that has a bulge
bigg enough to fit. (probably to fit an MK Indy, but as i havent bought the chassis yet, this could all change)
or do y'all know of anyone who sells metal ones that could be 'adapted' to fit???
Bought mine from MK.(see avatar)

If i am right, then isnt the plenum chamber much higher than the rocker box and way off to one side? so your bulge would either have to be the full width of the bonnet or stuck over towards the passenger side, just take a look at the Dax...
All I know is what I read in the listing:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2429356412&category=29750
No kickbacks or other benefit from referral . . .
the trick is to shortern the plenum and lay it at 45 degrees so it goes under the bonnet with no bulges, see robin hood site somewhere, been there got the shirt etc
Wadders, is that bonnet made so you can fit the 2.0i plenum under there??????
also i know the 'big shiny thing where the carb should be' is called a plenum, but what does a plenum do???
Very basicaly, a plenum chamber is an air box.
I did say very basicaly..
the plegnum is supposed to act as an air resovoir to smooth the flow to the intake ducts. The volume and the length of the inlet tracts is supposed to
have an effect on engine power / torque.
The V12 xj-s I had could be fitted with modified plegnums that supposedly added 13% torque just by tuning the intake lengths.

Err not quite, it covers the air filter and carb tops of a ZX9R motor, which poke through the bonnet about 2 inches.

carcentric, tried contacting that link, his answer was cut a standard bonnet and graft a bulge or bonnet scoop on myself.
not exactly the answer i was expecting from someone who calims to be able to make anything for a car in any material...
thanks for the tip tho,
when i get that far, i have a feeling i'll be cutting the bonnet myself, and with the addition of a few other bits making a moulded
'adapted' bonnet out of glassfibre myself. (which would prove usefull to other builders tho are looking to do the same.
Looking at the Plenum itself i think it is made from cast alloy, which i believe most welders wont touch
Cast alloy is weldable, iv'e had my sump chopped and rewelded with no problems.
As long as the thing is clean and any coatings are removed prior to welding.
I think what puts a lot of welders off is when you turn up clutching a handful of painted, oily, mis- fitting parts, they know from experience that the
job spells trouble. If on the other hand you do all the preparation for them, weldings the easy bit.

Just found a link to some blokes robin hood who had the same problem. he shows you how to do it. looks easier than i imagined so i guess i'll not
be having a bulge.
anyone intrested how to do it go here:

A trustworthy source on the Swedish locost list encourage people to build there own plenums out of 3" exhaust pipe. Make it the same volume, weld
on studs and connect to the cut off inlet with short rubber houses (the "wavy" radiator kind). And as Steve say, the length of the inlet
will affect the character of the motor.

Any chance of a pic of that?

Sorry, only hearsay so far, I'll drop a question on the Swedish list.
Cheers Leif.
It can look something like this
Picture from http://www.sbr-racing.com/ (Swedish only) Don't think they use hoses here. The car is an escort mk2 btw.
Cheers Leif
I have posted this before somewhere else but incase you havn't seen it luego do a nose cone/scuttle that is 4 inches higher than norm. ok if you
